Self Catering October 4-night Northern Lights Holiday

25-29 October 2025

Enjoy four relaxing nights in Vesterålen staying in these incredibly picturesque and cosy fjord-side cabins. This October break is hosted by our local partners and includes return transfers from Harstad/Narvik airport, self-catering cabin accommodation and a programme of hand-picked activities. There is also a wood-fired sauna at the cabins that you can book (for an additional charge) on arrival.

On this trip the days are spent making the most of what this part of Norway has to offer. You will head out on our much-loved Eagle Safari by boat to look for white-tailed sea eagles soaring over the fjord (with optional lunch after). You will also enjoy our Sami Culture & Reindeer Experience where lunch is included and you will learn about Sami culture and daily life with the herd. One day is kept for a guided road trip around the local area. Expect a mix of photogenic fishing villages, sweeping beaches, panoramic viewpoints and short stops at local producers or historic sites. Routes vary with weather and interest but may include places like Nyksund or other favourite corners of the archipelago, with plenty of time for photos and stops along the way.

As night falls we keep watch for the aurora. Depending on the forecast we will either chase by vehicle or simply step outside the cabins, which sit in a wonderfully dark location. Up to four nights of aurora hunting are planned.

The average temperature at this time of year is 4.5ºC or 40ºF. October is when the landscapes glow with vibrant autumn colours – shades of red, orange, gold and deep green mirrored beautifully in the fjords and lakes. There may also be a little snow on some of the mountain peaks.

Arrival

Upon arrival at Harstad/Narvik (EVE) airport, you will be met by our local partners and transferred to your fjord-side cabin accommodation. The journey time is approximately 3 hours, with opportunities to stop en route for food and supplies.

If aurora conditions are favourable, we may head out for our first chance to see the lights tonight — sometimes they can even be visible directly from the cabins.

Sami Culture & Reindeer Experience

Today is a cultural highlight with only a small amount of travelling. After a leisurely morning you will drive around one hour to Hinnøya to meet the local Sami community. Here you will learn about Sami history and traditions, spend time with the reindeer herd, and enjoy a homemade lunch included in the visit.

The afternoon is free to relax back at the cabins, perhaps making use of the optional sauna, before heading out again after dinner for another evening of aurora hunting.

Langøya & Nyksund sightseeing daytrip

Today is set aside for a guided sightseeing road trip around the Vesterålen island of Langøya. Your hosts will take you on a varied route that might include the photogenic fishing village of Nyksund, sweeping beaches, panoramic viewpoints and stops at local producers or historic sites. Each trip is tailored to the conditions and group interests, so no two days are ever the same.

There will be plenty of time for photos, short walks, and coffee breaks along the way before returning to the cabins in the late afternoon. In the evening we continue our search for the Northern Lights.

Sea Eagle & Wildlife Safari

This morning you head out on our much-loved Eagle Safari.

After a short introduction you will board the boat and weave along the coast and some of the smaller islands in search of white-tailed sea eagles. These incredible birds are often seen swooping down close to the water, providing fantastic photo opportunities. Please note: lunch is not included on this activity, but can be booked and purchased on site if you wish.

The rest of the day is yours to relax at the cabins and soak up the fjord views before your final evening of aurora chasing.

Return Journey

After you have had a relaxed breakfast and morning at the cabins, we will transfer you back to Harstad/Narvik (EVE) airport in time for your departure flight. The journey takes around 3 hours.

These spacious waterfront apartments are ideal for families, small groups or couples. Some feature two cosy bedrooms with double beds and a loft space that can sleep two additional guests, making it a fun hideaway for children. For larger groups, there are also apartments with four bedrooms available.

From the ground-floor bedrooms you can step directly onto a private patio overlooking the fjord. Each apartment includes a modern bathroom and a separate toilet for extra convenience. The open-plan kitchen and living area offers uninterrupted fjord views – the perfect backdrop for a morning coffee or a relaxing evening after a day of adventure.

We collect and drop off guests at our local airport, Harstad-Narvik. The airport code is EVE.

To arrive at Harstad-Narvik you will need to take a flight from Oslo Gardemoen (OSL) which is Norway’s international airport. There are several daily flights between Oslo Gardemoen (OSL) and Harstad-Narvik (EVE). These flights are operated by Norwegian and SAS. The flight time is approximately 1h 40m.
