December 4-night Northern Lights Holiday

4 - 8 December 2026

Join a 4 night trip as winter begins to draw in and the hours of darkness increase rapidly. Our base will be in Vesterålen, which is a fantastic location allowing us to spend the daytime visiting some of the most picturesque locations in the region.

Our base is in the beautiful Vesterålen archipelago, one of Northern Norway’s hidden gems. Away from the crowds, this spectacular region offers dramatic coastlines, towering mountains, sandy beaches and traditional fishing villages, providing wonderful opportunities for sightseeing and photography between our nightly Aurora hunts.

During the week you’ll enjoy an unforgettable eagle safari, an authentic Sámi culture and reindeer experience, and two full-day scenic excursions: one to the iconic Lofoten Islands, and another through the spectacular landscapes of Langøya, including a visit to the historic fishing village of Nyksund.

The average temperature at this time of year is -1ºC or 29ºF. At this time of year we can start to expect snow to be falling and beginning to settle with snow also visible on the peaks of some of the mountains.

Arrival

Upon arrival at Harstad-Narvik (EVE) airport, you will be met by your guide and transferred to your hotel for the evening. The journey time is approximately 2 hours. Dinner is not provided on this first evening but there will be opportunities to buy food en route from the airport to your hotel.

If weather and aurora conditions are good then we will plan to chase the lights tonight. There may even be an opportunity to view them whilst travelling from airport to hotel.

Please see the ‘How to Get Here’ tab above for information on the flights you can choose to arrive on.

Sami Culture & Reindeer Experience

Today is a more relaxing day for you with only a small amount of travelling. After a leisurely morning we will drive 10km out of Sortland and visit the local Sami Reindeer Farm where you will learn about Sami history and culture, enjoy a home made hot lunch and of course meet and feed the resident reindeer.

We will return to your hotel after lunch at the reindeer farm and then the rest of the afternoon is yours to choose to relax at the hotel or explore the town.

After dinner we will again plan to go in search of the Northern Lights.

Discover Langøya & Nyksund

Today we’ll head out on a leisurely scenic drive around the island of Langøya, exploring some of Vesterålen’s most spectacular coastal scenery. As we make our way towards Nyksund we’ll make a few photo stops at some of the island’s most beautiful viewpoints, taking in dramatic fjords and rugged mountains before continuing to the island’s wild northern coastline. Here we’ll enjoy breathtaking panoramic views across the Norwegian Sea towards Andøya.

Our destination is the historic fishing village of Nyksund, reached via a spectacular winding coastal road leading to one of the region’s most remote year-round communities. Once almost abandoned, Nyksund has found a new lease of life whilst retaining its authentic fishing heritage. Today it is home to just a handful of permanent residents, artists, cafés and galleries, creating a unique atmosphere unlike anywhere else in the region.

There will be plenty of time to wander along the harbour’s wooden boardwalks, capture some beautiful waterside photographs and explore the village at your own pace before enjoying a light lunch overlooking the harbour. Afterwards we’ll begin our scenic return journey through the beautiful landscapes of Langøya, making additional photo stops whenever the scenery deserves it.

After dinner we will once again head out in search of the Northern Lights.

Sea Eagle & Wildlife Safari

After breakfast we will head out to the far west of Vesterålen, travelling again through some of the most beautiful Arctic scenery. Today is all about the wildlife, notably the majestic White-Tailed Sea Eagle. After a presentation about the sea eagles you will board a boat and sail out amongst the smaller islands along the coast in search of sea eagles. This excursion has never failed to deliver incredible photo opportunities and is the best way to get close to the sea eagles in their natural habitat.

Upon returning to the harbour you will enjoy a tasty hot soup lunch before we make our way back to the hotel for the rest of the afternoon and evening.

This is our last opportunity of seeing the Northern Lights again so we will plan to go out once more.

After an early breakfast we will travel back to Harstad-Narvik airport, arriving in time for you to meet your flight home. Journey time is approximately 2 hours.
